Getting a learners permit
You need to obtain a learners permit from the Department of Transport before you can learn how to ride a motorcycle. There is a motorcycle theory test, an eyesight test and you may be required to undergo a medical examination or provide a medical clearance under some circumstances. More information on obtaining a learners permit is available here.
If you currently have an R-E licence, you are allowed to learn how to ride an R class bike, however you are unable to do a practical assessment until you have held it for 1 year.
Learning to ride
Once you have your learners permit, you can learn how to ride. You can either use a professional instructor or someone who has held that class of motorbike licence for 4 years( 2 years if it is a scooter)
Albany Motorcycle Training provides 1 on 1 training for all classes of motorbike licences, we like to ensure that our clients are not only going to pass their test but they will be safe on the road.
